The lead steps out of a dim hallway holding a champagne bottle, swings both arms wide on the beat, mouths the lyric straight into the lens and walks on into a glass corridor above a tropical garden, with a bodyguard following close behind.
It took off after Neymar posted his own version, "Lil Ney", on October 2, 2026. People then started making their own and captioning them the same way: "Lil" plus their own name.
A popstar ai video recreates that scene with you in it, from a single photo. You do not need to film anything or learn the moves. To see the original, watch it on the artists' own accounts.
Every name the trend goes by
Because the trend mixes a footballer and a music video, people search for it as popstar ai, popstar trend ai, lil ney ai, drake popstar ai and neymar popstar ai. They all point to the same thing: one photo in, one clip out of you walking through the POPSTAR mansion.

What about the AI Neymar used?
Nobody knows. News reports describe the Lil Ney clip as AI-made but do not name a tool, and no one has said publicly which one was used. So we cannot tell you whether his clip and ours come from the same model, and we will not guess.
How the template actually builds your clip
Popstar AI rebuilds the mansion from two inputs: your photo and a set of storyboard keyframes of the set. Your face, hair and outfit come from your photo. Only the set, the camera framing and the poses come from the keyframes, so the moves land in the original order and on the beat. The bodyguard and the party guests are AI-generated people, not anyone from the real video.
What you need before you start
One good photo. Use a real, recent photo of one person, facing the camera, with the face large and sharp in even light. JPG, PNG and WEBP files work. AI art, filtered portraits, costumes, sunglasses and far-away full-body shots all make the clip look less like you. If you upload a group shot, the maker will warn you to pick a picture with only one person.
A format in mind. The page has no scene picker: there is just one scene, the POPSTAR mansion. What you do choose is the format, and there are two:
- 9:16 vertical for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- 16:9 wide to match the original music video.
Both are rendered natively, so the wide version is not a cropped vertical clip or the other way around.
A length. This decides how much of the mansion you get to walk through:

How to make a Popstar AI video, step by step
The whole thing runs in your browser. There is no app to install and no prompt to write: each length has its own shot list already built in.
Step 1: Open the template page
Go to the Popstar AI template. The maker sits at the top of the page, with example clips and specs below it. If you are signed out, the button reads "Sign in to make your clip".
Step 2: Add your photo
Under "Add your photo", tap to upload your picture from the Popstar AI page. If the photo is very tall, the maker trims the bottom to fit and tells you. To swap pictures, use "Change photo".
Step 3: Pick the format
Open "Change model, resolution, length or format" in the Popstar AI maker and set the format. Choose 9:16 if the clip is going to TikTok, Reels or Shorts. Choose 16:9 for the wide music-video look.
Step 4: Pick the model and quality
Still under "Pick model, quality & length" on the template page, choose Standard or Extended, then Standard 480p or HD 720p. Standard (Seedance 2.0 Mini) is the cheaper way to try your look; Extended (Seedance 2.5) gives the full mansion tour.
Step 5: Pick the length
Set the length in the same panel of the Popstar AI maker. Standard defaults to 8 seconds and offers 5, 8, 10 or 15. Extended offers 5 to 30 seconds in steps of five. Shorter clips render faster. The credit cost on the button updates as you change any setting.
Step 6: Press "Make my clip"
When the settings look right, press "Make my clip · N credits" on the Popstar AI page, where N is the cost for your choices. If your balance is too low, the button reads "Get credits to make your clip", and your photo stays in place after you pay.
Step 7: Wait for the render
Rendering usually takes about 5–10 minutes, and busy periods can take longer. Once your request is confirmed you can close the tab: the job is saved, and you can come back to My Creations with the same account to check progress. Or stay on the template page and the clip appears there.
Step 8: Download and post
When you see "Your POPSTAR clip is ready", press "Download MP4". The song is already added and there is no watermark. The clip also stays in My Creations. Post it with a caption like "Lil" plus your name, the way the trend started, then head back to the Popstar AI template if you want another take.
Tips for a better Popstar AI clip
Photo tips
- Face large and front-on. A head-and-shoulders photo beats a full-body shot; the model needs facial detail to keep you recognisable as you walk.
- Even light, no hard shadows. Window light or a bright room works well.
- No sunglasses, hats pulled low or heavy filters. Anything that hides or changes your features makes the result look less like you.
- Wear what you want to be seen in. Your outfit comes from your photo, so a dressy fit suits the mansion.
- One person only. Crop out friends before you upload.
Choosing settings
- Try short first. A 5- or 8-second Standard clip at 480p is the cheapest way to see how your photo works in the scene. Once you like the look, go longer or switch to HD 720p.
- Go Extended for the full story. If the pop-art wall, the party and the pool are the parts you want, only Extended reaches them.
Posting tips
- Use the trend caption. "Lil" plus your name is what people recognise.
- Keep the song. The finished MP4 already includes it. If your clip came out silent, add the trending sound inside the app you post to.
Common problems and how to fix them
The clip does not look enough like me. Use a sharper, more recent photo with your face close to the camera and evenly lit. Remove sunglasses and skip filtered or AI-edited portraits.
The maker says it looks like a group photo. Crop the picture so only one person is in it, or choose a different photo.
The render failed. If a render does not finish, the credits go back to your balance automatically. Try again, ideally with a clearer front-facing photo.
The safety filter blocked my photo. The credits come back automatically here too. Pick a different picture: a plain, well-lit photo of yourself is the safest choice. Celebrity photos are not allowed in any case.
The clip is silent. The song is added after the video is made. If that audio step fails, the clip can come out without sound. The video itself is fine; add the trending sound when you post it.
It is taking longer than 10 minutes. Busy periods take longer. You do not need to submit again; check My Creations later with the same account.
I see "The POPSTAR scene is being updated". The template is temporarily unavailable. Wait a little while and try again.
